Welcome to the Greater Rome Georgia Young Marine web site. We currently reside at the Coosa Valley Fair Grounds at # 69 Church St. Rome Ga. We are a relatively new unit with a strong showing for the short time we have been in existence. Our unit is the fifth in the state, and at this time, the fastest growing unit. We draw kids from all the surrounding counties around the greater Rome Area. We are fortunate to be located in this area of the state and have the audience that we have available to us. Our success and rapid growth is in part due to the school teachers, councilors, principals and civic and State leaders that have believed in our program and shared it with their students, family and friends. Our Registered Adult Volunteers have done , and continue to do an outstanding job, they have put in many difficult days. We thank them for all of their hard work and dedication. We also give credit to our parent organization, the Jake Puryear chapter of the Marine Corps League. With out them we would still be in the planing stage. They stood us up and nurtured us until we could walk. They continue to support us; they are the backbone of our unit. We cannot not say enough about the United States Marine Corps and their involvement with our program. Our local unit, of the Marine Corps Reserve Training Center, made their facility available to us on day one. Their Staff helped us in all the training and support areas that we needed. With their leadership and personnel, they showed our Young Marine Recruits, role models that they will never forget. We can never thank them enough. Our Young Marine Family consist also of parents, they provide support and encouragement when the "going gets tough". Who else could convince their kids to come back for more on day two of Boot Camp. We have 52 kids on our roll, but room for many more. If you think you would like to join our unit, don't wait another day. Our next Boot Camp start date can be found in our "CALENDAR". You can download the forms, fill them out and contact us for a sign us today. You can also come by our base and see what we do. If you know one of our Young Marines, speak to them about the "Buddy Program". They will be glad to sponsor you. Caution! Parents should be aware; the kid you give us on day one of training may not be the same child you take home on Graduation day. We do see chances, our parents tell us of new found traits never seen before. Things like "room cleanliness", greater respect to parents and others. Our School Teacher tell of classroom improvements, maturity, and yes, some even earn better grades. When the Young Marines "buys the program", great things do happen. It is our privilege to welcome you and your child into our family..
